Thanh Niên – Can Tho Heritage Marathon 2024 attracts over 9,000 runners with many unique traits on the race tracks
On December 22, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Can Tho City, in collaboration with Duc Huong Anh Co., Ltd., successfully organized the Can Tho Heritage International Marathon 2024. After three successful editions, the race has become a much-anticipated sporting event within the running community. This year, the marathon welcomed over 9,000 participants competing in four race categories: 5km, 10km, HM and FM.

Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated that the 2024 edition coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army. The race featured the participation of numerous professional athletes and running clubs.
“The Can Tho Heritage International Marathon 2024 holds significant meaning as it fosters community engagement, strengthens solidarity among running enthusiasts, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and contributes to the development of local tourism. We hope that in the coming years, the event will expand further, attract more participants, and become even more appealing,” shared Mr. Viet.

Unique Race Routes Highlighting Can Tho’s Cultural Heritage
One of the major highlights of this year’s race is the introduction of a new route through Binh Thuy District for the first time. This area features scenic canal-side roads, peaceful surroundings, and minimal traffic intersections, providing an optimal running experience. Along the way, runners will pass by ancient temples and historic pagodas, offering them both a physical challenge and an opportunity to explore the unique charm of a riverside city.
Additionally, the racecourse takes participants through Lo Vong Cung, historically known as the “ring of fire” during the resistance era and now recognized as a national historical site. Other notable landmarks along the route include Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, My Khanh Tourism Village, and the famous Cai Rang Floating Market. This immersive route allows runners to experience Can Tho’s rich history, vibrant culture, and dynamic modernization all in one event.

A Well-Organized and Runner-Friendly Event
To ensure the best experience for all participants, the organizing committee invested heavily in event operations. Numerous water stations, medical aid points, and mobile restrooms were placed throughout the course, along with the presence of hundreds of volunteers for security and support. The event’s start and finish lines were set at Song Hau Park Square, which also served as the central venue
