Thể thao Việt Nam – December 22 morning: The Can Tho Heritage Marathon 2024 officially kicks off, attracting over 9,000 runners from Vietnam and Abroad

More than 9,000 runners from Vietnam and abroad are competing in four race categories: 5km, 10km, half marathon (21.1km), and full marathon (42.195km).

Starting from Song Hau Park, the race route passes through key districts of Can Tho City, showcasing its most famous tourist attractions, such as Ninh Kieu Wharf, Cai Rang Floating Market, Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, and My Khanh Fruit Garden. Designed with a unique layout, the Can Tho Heritage International Marathon 2024 not only challenges participants but also offers them a chance to explore the cultural and historical richness of Tây Đô.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Trí, General Director of DHA Vietnam (Đức Hương Anh Co., Ltd.), the organizer of the Heritage Marathon series, the Can Tho Heritage International Marathon has been officially certified with standardized race routes. Experts from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the Vietnam Athletics Federation participated in the certification process.

With AIMS accreditation, this becomes the first international-standard marathon in Can Tho. Runners can use their race results to qualify for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships—one of the most prestigious marathon series globally.

Mr. Trương Công Quốc Việt, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated: “With a route starting from Song Hau Park and passing by iconic landmarks such as Lo Vong Cung and Cai Rang Floating Market, the race is expected to enhance Can Tho’s image and encourage a stronger sports culture among the city’s residents.”

The Can Tho Heritage Marathon is not only a major sporting event but also a distinctive cultural milestone, positioning Can Tho as a premier destination for the running community. It aims to gradually establish itself on the international marathon map while contributing to sustainable tourism development.

The marathon aspires to become a prestigious annual event in Can Tho—the heart of the Mekong Delta—growing in scale and appeal while attracting an increasing number of participants each year.
